Coming Alive by Renee Harless Spotlight Sunday!!

Synopsis:

Second chances...

Does one take it?

Avery Poindexter never expected to take another chance at love...actually, she had planned on remaining invisible for the rest of her life.

Growing up in a family that would put Cinderella's to shame, Avery Poindexter watched as her sister withstood years of abuse while she was sidelined to the staff quarters unable to fight for her own.
However, she had a plan...

On her eighteenth birthday, with the signed paperwork from her malicious grandmother, Avery and her sister make their escape and never look back, but Avery should have guessed that her change in luck was too good to be true.

After unexpected deaths, Avery finds herself simply passing through life....alone.
Banishing herself to a life of loneliness and solitude, Avery jumps at the chance to start over somewhere new: Carson, North Carolina. As Avery adjusts to a new beginning and a new life, she's thrown a curve ball she wasn't expecting - him - a man that has his own secrets and demons shrouded in the darkness of his past. He also happens to be one of her bosses and Avery finds herself drawn to him in a way she never anticipated, torn between wanting to wrap him in her arms and push him away in hopes to save his life.

Logan doesn't trust women. Period. They play on your emotional vulnerability and use you if they can. They chew you up and spit you out. He should know; his family has a long history of lying, cheating, manipulating, and leaving women.

Growing up in a trailer park, kicking post to his dad's vicious temper, Logan made a vow to make something of himself. Determination and scholarships got him through medical school; women got him through lonely nights.

A one-night stand cut short exposes Logan to a mysterious woman that flips his world upside down. Logan never expected to meet her; the one that would make him question everything. Undeterred by her need to keep him at an arm's length, he goes against everything he believes in the quest to prove that they're worth fighting for.

Will Logan be able to breathe life back into Avery's heart and offer her the things she craves...family? Love? Or will their devastating pasts force them apart?

Review:
What is there to say about Coming Alive other than I loved it!

Within the story, we are introduced to the characters of Avery and Logan. Both these main characters have not had an easy life. Avery has had much hardship with her relationships, and grew up in an unloving household. Logan has had the exact same issues as Avery, which therefore makes them connect on a deeper level.

Despite the fact that they have had issues, they each try to keep moving forward with their lives. When they meet each other, fireworks start going off. They are each skeptical about a new relationship, especially since they have each gone through some terrible things in their pasts. When they finally give in to being friends your heart starts to melt. You begin to realize that they are utterly perfect for each other. They have the ability to understand what the other has gone through and the suffering they have endured. They are able to comfort each other like no one else can. Finally, they have their issues. Their relationship is not perfect. They argue and disagree on subjects, which makes this novel all the more realistic and captivating.

This novel was filled and packed full with emotion. There were so many times where I was near the verge of tears. The characters have each experienced so much throughout their lives, that you can't help but feel the pain and sorrow they are going through. Coming Alive will move you like no other book can. You will be inspired to keep moving forward in your life despite the problems that may come along with it. It makes you realize that life is always worth living even when you feel like you are at your lowest point.

I cannot wait to read the next book in this incredible series!!
This book will make you fall in love in all the best possible ways. I definitely recommend Coming Alive to everyone!
4/5 Stars!

Author Interview:

1) For those who don't know you, would you mind telling us a bit about yourself?

Renee Harless is a romance writer with an affinity for wine and a passion for telling a good story.

To say that Renee is a romance addict would be an understatement. When she isn’t chasing her toddler or preschooler around the house, helping her husband make youtube videos, working her day job, or writing, she jumps head first into a steamy novel. The naughtier the better.
2) What was the last book you read that you fell in love with?
Forever Secret by Kathleen Brooks

3) When you're not writing, what do you enjoy doing in your spare time?
Hands down, reading.

4) In your opinion, what makes a great story?
For me, a story needs to make me feel emotionally connected with the characters. It could be the best plot in the world, but if I don’t understand why the main protagonist/antagonist feels the way that they do, then I can’t enjoy the story.

5) When did you first realize you wanted to become an author?
It seems to be a common tale, but I read Twilight and said to myself, “I can do that.” I finished my first book 21 days later.

6) What was your inspiration behind Coming Alive?
I had the idea of Coming Alive after I had given birth to my daughter. I was filled with all of these excess emotions and I needed a healthy way to let them go. Every emotion I felt while writing Coming Alive is one that I was feeling at the time - loss, depression, happiness, love – my goal was to have the reader feel those same emotions.

7) If Coming Alive were turned into a movie, which actors/actresses do you picture as the lead roles?
I would have Alessandra Daddario as Avery and Brandt Daughtry as Logan.

8) What is your favourite quote from Coming Alive?
That’s like asking me to pick my favorite child. BUT if I had to choose one that I am very fond of it would be, “You’re the air she needs to breath, you’re what brought her to life. She’ll be the reason you live and you’re what brought her to life.” That quote inspired the title.

9) What is your current work in progress about?
I just finished up Coming Together, book 2 in the Welcome to Carson series and I’m getting started on book 3, Coming Consumed. It follows Sydney and Dylan as they try to maneuver their romance through a web of lies. I also have begun outlining a pun filled romantic comedy I’m excited to work on.

10) Is there anything else you would like to add that I haven’t included?
I have an unhealthy addiction to Dr. Pepper and white Monster energy drinks. I also like to play in Photoshop so I tend to make my own book covers and teasers.

Author Bio:

Renee Harless, her husband, and children live in Blue Ridge Mountains of Virginia. She studied Communication, specifically Public Relations, at Radford University.

Growing up, Renee always found a way to pursue her creativity. It began by watching endless runs of White Christmas- yes even in the summer – and learning every word and dance from the movie. She could still sing "Sister Sister" if requested. In high school she joined the show choir and a community theatre group, The Troubadours. After marrying the man of her dreams and moving from her hometown she sought out a different artistic outlet – writing.

To say that Renee is a romance addict would be an understatement. When she isn’t chasing her toddler around the house, working her day job, or writing, she jumps head first into a romance novel.
